The Shaft September 2011

Our first EIGSC lunch of the Fall was held at Taix’s on September 20th, 2011. President Allan Lloyd was out of the country on business, so group Vice President Andrew Ryan presided over the meeting.

25 members and their guests were in attendance. Unfortunately, our guest speakers had something come up at the last minute and were unable to attend. We will work on rescheduling them for a future lunch.

The first order of business was recapping the success if this past year’s charity golf tournament. $16,529 was collected in total revenue, this total included $754 collected in raffle tickets alone. There was $12,401.82 in expenses associated with putting on the tournament which left $4,127.18 in profit. The EIGSC presented the Elevator and Escalator Safety Foundation with a check in the amount of $3,500. I think everyone who joined us at the California Country Club will agree this was a huge success and a great time was had by all.

The group would like to give a special thanks and a fond farewell to Scott Dutton. Scott has been the mastermind behind several past golf tournaments and a very active member of our group. Scott has taken a new position outside of the elevator industry so he will no longer be organizing our annual charity event. He was kind enough to leave behind a checklist of everything that must be done in preparation for next year’s event. We will be looking for some new members to assist in the planning and organizing, if anyone would like to volunteer, please speak up.

Thank you to everyone who brought a gift for the raffle. Doris Brannon (can of nuts), Andrew Ryan (wine), Carolyn Chavez (wine), Leslie Malloy (liquor), Mike Farris (Buffalo Trace), Ray Miller (liquor). There were quite a few other donations, please note the gift on the sign in sheet so you can be recognized in the following newsletter. The grand prize this month was $75 from the EIGSC and was won by Mike Farris. Congrats!

Our October lunch will be held on the 18th at 11am. We will have nominations for elected officers at this meeting with the election to follow in November. Please consider running for office if at all possible, the group can use some help. George Markert from EECO will be presenting to the group at this meeting. He will be discussing doing business in this economy, should be very interesting and informative. The following month we have scheduled a presentation from Hyundai Elevator which is doing some big things in the US. We will also have a very special guest, Theresa Witham, the Executive Director of the Nat’l Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC).

Hope to see everyone in October!

Special thanks to Tom Sybert, for fixing our web site and keeping us updated..
